Parasol Support

Parasol warns you before the UV index passes your limit, shows your safe windows for the day, and — with an Apple Watch — adds up the UV dose you actually absorbed while outside.

Common questions

The dose card says no daylight was logged. Time in Daylight is recorded by Apple Watch Series 6, SE (2nd generation), Ultra or later on watchOS 10 or newer. Check Health → Browse → Other Data → Time in Daylight has entries for today, and that Parasol has read access under Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Parasol. Samples can take up to an hour to sync from the watch.

I'm not getting alerts. Alerts are scheduled from the forecast, so the app needs to have been opened recently enough to have one. Check Settings → Notifications → Parasol is allowed, then open the app and pull down to refresh.

The forecast won't update. Parasol needs location access while in use (Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Parasol) and an internet connection. Offline, it keeps showing the last forecast it downloaded.

How is the burn dose calculated? Minutes your watch logged in daylight, multiplied by the cloud-adjusted UV index for those minutes, converted to Standard Erythemal Doses (1 SED = 100 J/m²) and compared with a typical burn threshold for your Fitzpatrick skin type. Logged sunscreen reduces the dose using a deliberately conservative real-world protection factor. It is an estimate for unprotected skin and not medical advice.

What's free and what's Pro? UV now, the chart, cloud cover, safe windows and threshold alerts are free forever. Parasol Pro is a single one-time purchase that adds Apple Watch dose tracking, sunscreen logging and the Lock Screen and dose widgets. Everyone gets Pro free for their first week.

I bought Pro on another device. Open Settings in Parasol and tap Restore purchases. Pro is tied to your Apple Account and supports Family Sharing.
